You can read about our State Fair of Texas at home party and learn how to make Air Fried Dr. Pepper in last week's post. My savory entry at our family gathering was Air Fried Guacamole. This is one of those recipes where late at night, just before falling asleep, my husband rolled over and asked, "Hey, do you think you could air fry guacamole?". I say "one of those" because he frequently dreams up a fun food combo or idea right before bed. Ever ready for a challenge, I started testing out this easy appetizer.
How to make air fried guacamole
The first thing you'll need to do is make a batch of Chipotle Guacamole. Next, take a melon baller or small cookie scoop and place rounded balls of guacamole onto a parchment lined baking sheet.

Freeze the guacamole for at least one hour. Preheat the air fryer or oven and remove guacamole from freezer. Set up a breading station and place the batter onto the guacamole, flour, lightly beaten egg (not like the one pictured), and then crushed tortilla chips.

Cook the guacamole and serve warm.
Tips and Tricks
Do I have to make Chipotle Guacamole?
You can use your own favorite recipe or you can purchase pre-made guacamole at the store. If you can, go to your grocery store ready made food area and purchase the guacamole they make in store. If that is not available, any refrigerated guacamole you can find will work.
Freeze the guacamole!
Seriously, this is the key to this recipe holding together at all. If it starts to thaw while you are breading, toss it back in the freezer for about 10min and continue.
Get ready to get your fingers dirty. There is no way to bread the guacamole without getting messy.
Tortilla chips
You can use any tortilla chip you like! I go for a thin chip because it will be light and crispy after frying. You could make this recipe gluten free pretty easily. Most chipotle peppers are gluten free (always check the label) to begin with. Substitute tapioca starch for the flour and a gluten free chip or even a plantain chip for the crispy outer coating.
Air FryingThe hard truth is that every air fryer is a little different. The cooking time may vary on your air fryer. The model my brother-in-law and I both use can be found here.
